May 17, 2013

Team spirits soar to new levels with addition of talented and effervescent athlete

IRVINE, Calif. – ASICS America welcomes Track & Field star and 2012 Olympian, Alysia Montaño, to its expanding team of distinguished athletes. Her vibrant personality and unwavering work ethic make her a strong addition to ASICS’ talented family of athletes. A fearless competitor in the notoriously challenging 800-meter event, Alysia is easily recognized by the signature flower she wears in her hair while competing.

“I’ve always felt a strong attachment to ASICS, ever since I first slipped on my first pair of the ASICS Gel-Excel33™ and felt like I never wanted to take them off my feet,” Montaño commented. “They instantly felt perfect, and I simply cannot imagine not being able to wear them to train every day. Knowing I have the best footwear on my feet, along with the support from ASICS, will help empower me to achieve my goals and work towards the next level.”

Alysia started running at the age of five, motivated by a family of young boys she grew up with in Southern California. She excelled in soccer and basketball before focusing on Track & Field, where she competed at the University of California at Berkeley. In addition to her four USA titles and a World Indoor bronze medal, Alysia has won two NCAA titles, holds numerous records, and was the world’s fastest woman in the 800-meter run in 2010. Last summer, she also added to her list of accolades a spot on the 2012 Olympic Team for the United States, where she raced to a 5th place finish in the 800-meter final in London.

“Alysia’s vivacity and fierce determination make her an instrumental addition to our ASICS Athlete roster,” commented ASICS Athlete Manager, Annie Adams. “In addition to her athletic accomplishments, her exceptional style and drive make her a true standout. We love watching her compete, as her high energy and infectious laugh are contagious. She is a rising star we are confident will go far, and we look forward to supporting her.”

The partnership launches as Alysia recently set a new American record at the 2013 4x800 Penn Relays. ASICS looks forward to supporting Alysia as she pursues her dream of heading back to the Olympic games in Rio 2016. Tune in to this video to learn more about Alysia.
