Devil Dog Double participants to run both five mile and half marathon distances on May 21
QUANTICO, VA (February 16, 2017) – Just like the determined Devil Dogs of the Marine Corps, runners wanting the challenge of running a five-mile distance and then immediately running an additional half marathon, have captured all entries available for the new Devil Dog Double, selling out the first time event.
The Devil Dog Double occurs in conjunction with the Semper 5ive (five mile) presented by Navy Federal Credit Union and the Marine Corps Historic Half (13.1 mile) on Sunday, May 21 in Fredericksburg, VA with participants running 18.1 miles.
While the Devil Dog Double includes both the five-mile and half marathon distances, DDD participants must also embrace the challenge of running Hospital Hill twice. Hospital Hill is the strenuous 200-foot steady incline on both the Historic Half and Semper 5ive courses located on the Mary Washington Healthcare campus.
For achieving their accomplishment, Devil Dog Double participants are sure to enjoy receiving not one, not two … but three stunning finisher medals from U.S. Marines.
The Devil Dog Double debuts as the Marine Corps Historic Half celebrates its tenth anniversary.
Registration remains open to the public for both the Marine Corps Historic Half and Semper 5ive at www.marinemarathon.com.
The Marine Corps Historic Half, established in 2008, annually is held in Fredericksburg, VA hosts 10,000 runners participating in half marathon and five-mile distance events. The Historic Half is sponsored by GEICO Military, Wegmans, Pohanka Nissan and Navy Federal Credit Union. Considered “the greatest half marathon in history,” the event boasts a course featuring landmarks dating back to our nation’s beginnings and the early homes of Presidents George Washington and James Monroe. #RunWithTheMarines
