The organizers of the BolderBOULDER introduce an innovative new concept to professional road racing where men and women compete against each other in the same race.
FORT COLLINS, COLO. (August 10, 2017) – FORTitude 10K Colorado’s newest ten kilometer road race, today announced the format for its professional race. The USA Pro Race Chase format is unique, as the men's and women's races are combined with everyone competing against each other. Each racer will have an individual start time based on his or her projected ?nish time, calculated by a statistical algorithm using the ARRS database and recent performances. The staggered start times will statistically have everyone merging near the finish of the race. Which means everyone, even with different race times, will have an equal chance to win.
“What is intriguing about the Fortitude Pro Chase format is that it eliminates the pack mentality that most major road races have,” said Don Janicki FORTitude 10K pro athlete coordinator. “Each individual runner is going to test their ability to pace and resist the temptation to go out too hard. Testing their patience but at the same time throwing in some risk to win it all. Very compelling racing!”
The USA Pro Race Chase will be staged immediately after the FORTitude 10K ?eld has ?nished, where those ?nishers become front row spectators as the Pro race is telecast into the brand-new Colorado State University stadium. The professionals will race the same course, and cross the ?nish line at the stadium where thousands will be cheering their ?nish. The course was designed to produce fast times. It is nearly ?at with a gradual, but noticeable downhill from mile 3 to the ?nish.
“We love the idea that everyone (men and women) have an equal chance to win the overall the championship,” said Cliff Bosley, BolderBOULDER race director. “Our prize purse awards the overall winner but also the fastest times in each gender, which will be motivation for the entire field.”
Total prize money is $28,500 and is awarded in three categories:
- Overall order of finish, 1st through 15th place.
- Men’s and women’s order to finish, 1st through 5th place, with separate male and female prize purses.
- Men’s and women’s fastest times, 1st through 10th place, with separate male and female prize purses.
For example, overall first place wins $5,000 ($4,000 for a 1st place overall finish and $1,000 for a 1st place finish by gender). It would be possible to win $6,000 total if the runner also had the fastest time within his/her gender.
"I'm looking forward to toeing the line at the inaugural Fortitude 10k,” said Droddy. “It's a great opportunity to race locally and get involved early with an event with such a bright future."
“It's a really special thing to be a part of an inaugural race. I'm honored to be one of the first participants in what is to become a tradition of road racing.”
The USA Pro Race Chase will take place at the FORTitude 10K on Monday, September 4th with the women’s start at 10:30 AM and the men’s start at 10:40 AM. For more information- http://fortitude10k.bolderboul
