Team RunFan’s Chipangama, Llano and Fernandez headline field
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – GO! St. Louis, a local not-for-profit organization that specializes in providing fitness events and programs for the region on a year-round basis, announced today that the elite athlete field for the 2013 Great GO! St. Louis Halloween Race, which includes Missouri’s largest 10K race is starting to take shape. Headlining the men’s field are three athletes from Team RunFan in Flagstaff, Ariz. – Jordan Chipangama, Matt Llano and Eric Fernandez.
Chipangama, 25, returns to the Gateway City, after finishing second in the 2013 GO! St. Louis Half Marathon in April, where he posted a time of 1 hour, 3 minutes, 22 seconds – second to record-setter Aaron Braun’s 1:03:13.
Llano, 25, also competed in the 2013 GO! St. Louis Half Marathon, finishing sixth. His has a 28:43 PR in the 10K and is coming off a seventh place finish earlier this month at the U.S. 20K Championships. Most recently, he finished third at the Great Cow Harbor 10K in Northport, New York over the weekend.
Fernandez was an NCAA All-American at the University of Arkansas, and has run 28:37:77 for 10k and was a two-time Missouri State Champion during his days at Parkway West High School.
Regional elites confirmed to compete in the 10K are last year’s GO! St. Louis Halloween 5K winner Carter Snow and 2012 GO! St. Louis All-American 5K winner Matt O’Connor. Snow and O’Connor, both represent Big River Running Company. In addition, Benson Chesang, Lawrence, KS will be returning to St. Louis after a 2011 second place Halloween 10K finish.
On the women’s side, 2012 Olympic Marathon Trials qualifier and 2009 Halloween 10K winner Julie Lossos returns to compete, along with local standout Crystal Harris.
The Great GO! St. Louis Halloween Race, set for Sunday, October 13, features a half marathon, 10K, 5K and a 1-Mile Fun Run. The festive annual event attracts a growing number of elite athletes, along with thousands of participants who dress in costume to celebrate the Halloween season. More than 7,000 participants are expected to participate, making it one of the largest Halloween-Themed runs in the U.S.
