Dick's Sporting Goods Named Title Sponsor of BolderBOULDER 10K BOULDER, Colo. - (October 18, 2007) - Dick's Sporting Goods, the largest full-line sporting goods retailer in the United States, and the BolderBOULDER, the second largest road race in the nation, have announced a 5-year agreement making Dick's Sporting Goods the race's title sponsor. The BolderBOULDER, the nation's largest timed race, is held annually on Memorial Day. Industry with New Individualized Finisher Webpages QUANTICO, Va. - (October 16, 2007) - The Marine Corps Marathon is leading the industry with a new service for runners to view their post-race results. Replacing the Post-Race Results CD will be individualized, customized finisher websites for each of the more than 21,000 anticipated finishers. Designed and hosted by MarathonFoto, the site will offer runners access to their split times, finish results and photos, plus interactive features like RunPix, Map Track, Finisher Certificates, eGreetings and more, scrapbooked together in one easy-to-use location. "The MCM has always been on the cutting edge of race technology from being among the first races to use timing chips to utilizing a wireless network," said Rick Nealis, Marine Corps Marathon Race Director. "I am proud to offer this new innovation to our finishers that will make viewing and sharing race results and information more dynamic than ever before." This first-of-its-kind website takes finishers on a journey through their Marine Corps Marathon adventure, offering all the great features of the MCM Results CD in an online format. Finishers will enjoy personalized webpages with their finish times, photos and other personalized results data to share with friends and family, simply by sending a link. Grants DULUTH, Minn. - (October 15, 2007) - Several Minnesota marathon runners will be heading to New York City next month with a goal of earning a spot on the 2008 U.S. Olympic team. To acknowledge their accomplishment and to help offset expenses, the Minnesota Elite Athlete Development Program (MEADP) has awarded $300 to each of the athletes. Donovan Fellows (Woodbury), Matt Gabrielson (Minneapolis), Pete Gilman (Rochester), Jason Lehmkuhle (Minneapolis), Chris Lundstrom (Minneapolis) and Zachary Schendel (Minneapolis) have all qualified to compete in the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials scheduled for Saturday, November 3. These six Minnesotans will be among the field of the nation's best male marathoners taking to the streets of New York City and Central Park with the hopes of representing the U.S. in the 2008 Beijing Games. The top three finishers will make the U.S. Olympic team. MEADP will also make contributions to Minnesotans who qualify for other 2008 Olympic Trials long-distance events ranging from 5K to the marathon, including the 2008 U.S. Olympic Women's Marathon Trials which will be held next April in Boston. In 1998, the Minnesota distance running community created MEADP to provide financial assistance to elite Minnesota distance runners who have completed their academic running careers. The program provides grants to assist qualified runners in reaching their full athletic potential. The program is funded through contributions from Austin-Jarrow Sports, Grandma's Marathon-Duluth, Inc., Minnesota Distance Running Association (MDRA) and Twin Cities Marathon, Inc. In addition, MEADP is now accepting applications for 2008 grants. MEADP will provide grants in amounts up to $2000 per recipient to promising male and female Minnesota elite distance runners. Monterey MONTEREY, Calif. - (October 15, 2007) - The fifth presentation of the Big Sur Half Marathon on Monterey Bay takes place Sunday, November 11, attracting elites, recreational runners and military participants. The 13.1-mile race begins at 7:00am in downtown Monterey and travels a scenic course along the coastline in Monterey and Pacific Grove. The Half Marathon offers both running and walking divisions, along with a team competition. Other events include the 10-Mile Walk and the "Forrest Run" 5K sponsored by Bubba Gump. Nearly 6,000 participants are expected. The five year old race, organized by the Big Sur International Marathon, is drawing runners from all 50 states and eight countries. Twenty-five percent are running their first half marathon and five percent have competed in all previous Big Sur Half Marathons. This year's field is more than 60 percent female. Elite entrants include the male winner of the 2007 Big Sur International Marathon, Jeff Gardina, and the female winner of the 2006 marathon, Mary Coordt. Other top finishers returning include New Zealander Michael Aish and Kenyan MacDonald Ondara in the Open male division. The women's elite field includes Carmel High School grad Brooke Wells, Reebok team member Heather Gibson, Magdalena Lewy Boulet and Janne Kibii (Kenya). Held on Veterans' Day weekend, the half-marathon has a significant military presence. Teams from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines will compete. Hundreds of military personnel will be on the course, either running or volunteering their services. In addition to Sunday morning's main event, Saturday activities on November 10 include the Health and Fitness Expo at the Monterey Conference Center from 9:00am to 6:00pm and the new JUST RUN!® Just Kids 3K race presented by Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula at 9:00am. The "Blue Cross Live Like a Champion Tour" offering fun and fitness activities for children will be featured at Custom House Plaza on Saturday and Sunday from 9:00am to 1:00pm.
