Clark, Castelanelli Claim Wins at XTERRA Boney Mountain

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The XTERRA Boney Mountain Trail Run kicked off the 2010 new year Saturday January 9, 2010 as 435 runners hailing from 14 states crossed the finish line. Leading the pack were Jon Clark and Christina Castelanelli who claimed victories for the men and women in the main, half-marathon distance event.

This was the second consecutive XTERRA win for Rancho Santa Margarita resident Clark, 36, who won the XTERRA Topanga Turkey Trot in November. His winning time of 1 hour, 34 minutes, 31 seconds in Saturday’s race was good enough to overtake XTERRA Point Mugu runner-up Jonathan Toker, 35, from Newbury Park by 33 seconds. Rounding out the top three was 16-year old Jaxon Rickel from Tucson, CA in 1:37:24.

Christina Castelanelli, a 31-year-old Lodi resident, won this event for the second straight year. The 2008 XTERRA Trail Run Worlds bronze medalist dominated the women’s race in just 1:47:20. Five minutes later Alison Wenster, 36 from Orange, took second place while Tracy Dimino of Ramona claimed third in 1:58:07.

Valencia High School student Tyler Dimson, 16, and Ventura’s Tina Hilden, 36, won the day’s shorter 6K fun run for the men and women with their times of 30:26 and 35:59 respectively.

In addition, top finishers in the 21km will be awarded points toward their 2010 XTERRA SoCal Series totals. Athletes with the highest scores at the end of the season will be crowned XTERRA Regional Champions and receive free entry to the XTERRA Trail Running National Championship this fall.
