PHILADELPHIA – April 18, 2017 – American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Rock ‘n’ Roll Philadelphia Half Marathon has announced a new 10K distance for the 2017 event. The AACR Rock ‘n’ Roll Philadelphia 10K will take place on Saturday, September 16 at 7:30 am and will start and finish in Fairmount Park. Online registration for the 10K opens on Wednesday, April 19 at RunRocknRoll.com/Philadelphia.
“Philadelphia is a great running city so adding a third distance to the weekend was a natural fit,” said Adam Zocks, Event Manager. “The 10K is a great way for participants to take on a larger challenge and does not require as much training as a half marathon. With the race celebrating 40 years of running this new addition will only add to the weekend festivities.”
The AACR Rock ‘n’ Roll Philadelphia 5K also returns on Saturday and will take off at 7:00 am in Fairmount Park. Participants that run the 10K or 5K on Saturday and the half marathon on Sunday will earn the coveted Remix Challenge medal in addition to each race’s finisher medal.
The half marathon starts at 7:30 am and will once again start and finish in Fairmount Park. The course will take runners on a scenic tour of downtown Philadelphia including, Fairmount Ave, the historic Eastern State Penitentiary, City Hall, the LOVE sculpture, Boathouse Row, Schuylkill River and more.
In true Rock ‘n’ Roll fashion, live bands, enthusiastic cheerleaders and spectators will line the race route, concluding with a celebratory finish line festival and post race Toyota Rock ‘n’ Roll Concert Series headlined by Big Head Todd and the Monsters.
Race weekend kicks off with a free Health & Fitness Expo, where runners can find the latest in running technologies, fitness apparel, health and nutrition information and interactive displays. The expo takes place at the Pennsylvania Convention Center on Friday, September 15 from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, September 16 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The expo is free and open to the public.
