Grandma’s Minnesota Mile Set for September 7
Individual and Team Registration for the 12th Annual Minnesota Mile is open
Duluth, Minn. — This is the second year that participants in the Minnesota Mile will race on the scenic course along Duluth’s Skyline Parkway. The race will take place on Friday, September 7 beginning at 6 p.m. Participants will run a one-mile loop and enjoy views of Lake Superior, the St. Louis River Bay and Minnesota’s fall foliage.
Registration is open and the one-mile event – hosted by Grandma’s Marathon – is open to runners of all abilities.
The ability to register as a team is a new feature that was introduced this year. Participants are encouraged to create a team with your family, friends, neighbors and co-workers for a chance to earn Team Awards. Awards will be given to the fastest teams in each category: All Female, All Male, All Youth (ages 14 & under), and Mixed (families & co-ed teams). In addition to the timed competition, an award will be presented to the team with the greatest number of team members.
“The team competition adds another unique opportunity for registrants of all ages. The team aspect supports runners and walkers of all abilities to join in a friendly competition while running the same course as some of the nation’s best milers – all while enjoying some of the most scenic views of our city,” said Grandma’s Marathon Executive Director Shane Bauer.
The race starts near Enger Park Golf Course. Participants will proceed east on Skyline Parkway around Enger Park. They will then run by Twin Ponds and make their way back to the finish along Hank Jensen Drive. All pre-race and post-race activities will take place at Enger Park Golf Course.
The Minnesota Mile event includes a number of race divisions beginning at 6 p.m.:
· Wheelchair Division (open to those ages 7 & older)
· Open Division (all abilities and ages 7 & older)
· Women’s Elite Division (invitation only)
· Men’s Elite Division (invitation only)
Early registration entry fee is $20 until September 5. Late and race day registration is $30. Youth ages 7 to 14 are $10.
Keeping with tradition, the Minnesota Mile offers runners an exclusive opportunity to secure a spot in the 2019 Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon, as 250 finishers (ages 12 & older) will be randomly selected to receive guaranteed entries into the half marathon scheduled for June 22, 2019.
