Thousands of Runners to Usher in the New Year at the 40th Annual NYRR Midnight Run
Historic race will feature thousands of runners getting a head start on their 2019 resolutions, and the only New Year’s fireworks display in Manhattan
WHAT: Fireworks will kick off the start to the 40th annual NYRR Midnight Run, a four-mile race held each year in Central Park on New Year’s Eve. An expected 5,000 runners will race into 2019 together as they aim to accomplish their first fitness goals of the year. All participants will be able to toast with family and friends at the sparkling cider fluid station halfway into the four-mile course.
The race day festival at Rumsey Playfield will feature a live DJ, dancing, and—new this year—incredible elements such as an interactive dragon, elaborate stilt walkers, giant banner tails, and more. #ResolveToRun back bibs will be distributed to runners prior to the race to those interested in sharing the reason they are running.
The festival will be open to registered runners and one non-running guest per registered runner from 10:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. Anyone accessing the festival must have a wristband, which can be obtained by registered runners at the NYRR RUNCENTER Featuring the New Balance Run Hub during race material pick up.
