Sign-ups now open for volunteer projects with local non-profit to be held Saturday, Feb. 9, before conference begins

Detroit (Nov. 28, 2018) - Attendees of Running USA 2019 will have the chance to participate in one of two volunteer projects if they arrive early to San Juan, Puerto Rico. Sign-up for volunteering on Saturday, Feb. 9 is now open for those currently registered to attend the conference. (Not registered yet? Sign up here: http://www.cvent.com/d/8gqnhy.)

The industry conference, powered by the ACTIVE Network, is being held in Puerto Rico for the first time this year. The event begins midday on Sunday, Feb. 10 and runs through Tuesday evening, Feb. 12. Volunteer activities will be held the day before conference begins, so attendees will need to arrive in Puerto Rico early in order to participate.

The two volunteer opportunities attendees can now register for are:

Morning Activity: 9am to 1pm, Feb. 9: Helping San Salvador in Caguas: The community of San Salvador is a rural community of expansive beauty in Caguas. They have a beautiful ecological garden that was ravaged by the storm. Needs include: cleaning debris, farm work and clearing ecotrails. Learn the history of San Salvador and the Jardin Ecologico through interaction with the local residents.

Afternoon Activity: 1pm to 6pm: Helping the Pinones Community: COPI is an organization at Pinones, located the in the municipality of Loiza. They are focused on the cultural and economic development of their community through tourism. They’ve just acquired a new building in the hopes of converting it to office space and lodging for visitors and volunteers. Needs include cleaning debris, farm work and painting.

For full details on both of the activities, such as recommended attire and supplies, and to sign up, please visit this link. We kindly ask that you do not sign up to volunteer until your conference registration is fully processed. Thank you.

The Running USA 2019 volunteer activities are being coordinated with the help of Love In Motion, a Puerto Rican non-profit focused on fostering growth back on the island, and Erika Amaya, senior manager of volunteer operations at New York Road Runners (NYRR). The costs of transportation to the projects are being covered by the generosity of four industry technology companies: The ACTIVE Network, imATHLETE, Race Roster and RunSignUp.

Running USA thanks all of the participating organizations for their support of these volunteer projects and the annual industry conference.
