The 22nd Annual Pacific Crest Endurance Sports Festival Raises Over $1,000,000

Sunriver, OR – 3649 athletes competed in 20 different endurance events over a 3-day weekend in June in Sunriver Oregon. A total of 49 states were represented with 56% of athletes coming from all over Oregon, 18% from all over Washington, 8.5% from California, 4% from Idaho and athletes from Germany, Netherlands, Australia, Singapore, Samoa, Saudi Arabia and Korea.

Pacific Crest Endurance Sports Festival positively impacts various local non-profits from the community including Care for Kids, local cross-country, lacrosse, wrestling and soccer clubs, PEO groups, churches etc. Sherri McMillan, race director for Pacific Crest Endurance Sports Festival reports that “Pacific Crest will surpass $1 million dollars raised because of the addition of the Team in Training groups from all over the country raising over $979,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at Pacific Crest, $10,000 raised for Care for Kids and thousands to local schools, teams and clubs. It’s amazing what a weekend of fun and racing can do to support others and our community.”

Economic Impact to the Community: Although events can often feel like a burden to residents, having nearly 4000 athletes and their friends and family visiting Central Oregon definitely provides a positive economic impact to the community. The report from the National Association of Sports Commissions (NASC) suggests an average spending per person/day for this type of event is approximately $146.89 with an average multiplier score of 2.37 since it’s a 3 day festival. Pacific Crest Endurance Sports Festival would equate to an economic impact of $4,177,551 and this is most likely an underestimate since many families stay longer than 3 days and spend more per day in housing and food. The majority of this spending includes food and beverage, lodging, retail shopping, entertainment, and miscellaneous spending.  In addition, in order to produce the event, various local companies including staging and equipment companies, porta potties, flagging, food, water, ice, busses, ambulance, Sunriver Fire, Citizens Patrol etc are contracted to produce the event. The Event Expo also allows local business to highlight and promote their products and services.
