Registration Announced for 2020 Distinguished Participant Medal
Multi-event bundle now available to #RunWithTheMarines all year and earn exclusive medal
QUANTICO, VA (November 8, 2019) – Registration for the 2020 Marine Corps Historic Half Weekend will open Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019. Ambitious runners can also sign up for the very limited Distinguished Participant Medal, which symbolizes a year-long commitment to running with the Marines.
To qualify for this exclusive recognition and earn the coveted medal, runners should plan to #RunWithTheMarines on four specific dates in 2020 and can choose from various distances to meet the necessary requirements:
· May 17 in Fredericksburg, VA – Runners will earn their first qualifying finish by completing the Historic Half, the five mile Semper 5ive or Devil Dog Double, 18.1 mile run which combines both event courses. Devil Dog Double finishers receive all three event medals.
· June 20 on Marine Corps Base Quantico – To secure the second qualifying event, participants may run a 4.97 mile course through the woods in the Belleau Wood 8K; tackle mud pits and fun fitness challenges along a hilly four mile course in Run Amuck; ruck it through Quantico's trails and roadways for 12 miles in Recon Ruck; or tame two events as part of the Crossroads Challenge. Challenge participants must first run or ruck and then Amuck. Belleau Wood 8K finishers earn a medal. Run Amuck finishers take home a challenge coin. Recon Ruck finishers earn a commemorative patch. Crossroads Challenge participants earn the finisher items for both events plus a special medal.
· August 22 on Marine Corps Base Quantico – Participants can swim, bike, run or just run for the third qualifying event. Hosted in the unique setting of Officer Candidates School, the Quantico 12K is a 7.46 mile run that concludes adjacent to the OCS obstacle course. The Quantico Tri features a 750m swim in the Potomac, a 12.8 mile bike ride and a 5K run.
· November 21 on Marine Corps Base Quantico – The year-long journey to Distinguished status concludes outside Quantico's Lejeune Hall where the Turkey Trot 10K and Mile start and finish. The festive conclusion to the challenge hosts the official presentation of the Distinguished Participant medals.
Entrants can register for all four events in a single transaction starting Nov. 13. The challenge is open to runners of all ages and the fee will be determined by the mix of events selected. Limited space available in some events.
More than 200 runners will be awarded the 2019 Distinguished Participant medal at the Turkey Trot finish line on Nov. 23, 2019.
