Girls on the Run of the Big Bend’s largest annual fundraiser raises more than $7500 for program scholarships
TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—Girls on the Run of the Big Bend, (GOTRBB) a local, non-profit organization that inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running, brought together 91 runners and volunteers on Saturday for the Rock On Runathon at Premier Health & Fitness Center. 9 teams had raised over $7,600 towards scholarships at the time of the event and will continue to fundraise for the organization until October 31st.
The annual runathon is the largest fundraiser for Girls on the Run of the Big Bend. Girls on the Run of the Big Bend has served almost 1,000 girls since 2014. Teams of five to ten runners hop on and off treadmills for five continuous hours and raise a minimum of $1000 to support scholarships for girls to experience this positive youth development program. This year’s event featured the first virtual team, where runners were able to complete their mileage on their own in the time leading up to the event. The event featured activities, refreshments, special guests and entertainment throughout the day.
"Our Runathon has become a beloved fundraiser in our community, and it has been a joy to watch it grow over the past three years," said Ericka McKibbin, executive director of Girls on the Run of the Big Bend remarks. “Scholarships ensure that all girls can be a part of our program and unlock their limitless potential. Whether you ran as a part of a team or simply donated in support of your favorite runner, I want to send a sincere thank you to all who took part in this rockin’ event.”
