Full marathon reaches capacity at 6,200, CarMax Richmond Half Marathon sells out at 10,000 participants,

RICHMOND, VA – The 2024 Allianz Partners Richmond Marathon has reached a new milestone, breaking the all-time participant record across all three events combined. The previous record of 20,586 runners, set in 2014, has been surpassed with a current total of 20,939 participants. The full marathon and the CarMax Richmond Half Marathon have officially sold out, hitting their caps of 6,200 and 10,000 runners respectively. This double sellout, and new record, marks a significant achievement for the highly anticipated race. With thousands of participants from across the U.S. and around the world preparing for race day on November 16, this year’s event will be the largest in the marathon’s history.

All three race distances have seen a rise in registrations, with the VCU Health Richmond 8k nearing its 5,000-participant cap as well. This year’s turnout solidifies the Allianz Partners Richmond Marathon as one of Virginia’s largest and most popular running events. Known for its fast and scenic course, downhill finish, and renowned course support, the race has earned its reputation as America’s Friendliest Marathon and draws runners aiming to set personal records and reach new goals.

Runners who still wish to participate in the Allianz Partners Richmond Marathon and CarMax Richmond Half Marathon can secure a spot by purchasing a Charity Entry for $500 (full) or $300 (half). Charity Entries are extremely limited and available on a first-come first-served basis. Charity Entries will directly benefit Sports Backers Youth Programs, the Official Race Charity of the Allianz Partners Richmond Marathon. The 47th running of the Allianz Partners Richmond Marathon will take place this Saturday, November 16, along with the CarMax Richmond Half Marathon and VCU Health Richmond 8k. The event kicks off with the Health & Fitness Expo at the Richmond Raceway infield area. The expo is open Thursday, November 14, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday, November 15, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Expo attendees should use Gate 4 or Gate 6 when entering the raceway complex. A QR code or photo ID is required to pick up race packets, and participants may pick up a race packet for another pre-registered runner, provided they have a copy of their photo ID. Participants can register for the VCU Health Richmond 8k online at www.RichmondMarathon.org and pick up their packet at the expo.

The expo will also include a ‘LIVE discussion on What Running Did for Me’ moderated by Lindsey Hine from I’ll Have Another and featuring Anthony Clary of We Off The Couch, Suellen Henneberry of Sportable, Kleigh Koupal of Effect Run Club, and Josh Leidy of 804 Run Club. The panel will be about the rise of Richmond run clubs and how they’ve created meaningful safe spaces for everyone to accomplish their goals. The session takes place at 12:30 p.m. on Friday on the Raceway’s Victory Lane Stage and is free and open to the public. The show will be published and available on the Sports Backers’ podcast On The Move with Nan & Kam on 11/21.

Following the races on Saturday is the CoStar Group Post Race Party on Brown’s Island with post-race food and drinks, as well as live music, medal engraving, complimentary massages, one-on-one professional stretching, interactive sponsor and vendor booths, and photo opportunities.
