Run to Honor program continues to support military charities

SPANISH FORT, AL. – FRESHJUNKIE Racing and the Battleship 12K are proud to announce that Publix will be the new Title Sponsor of the 7th annual Battleship 12K in Spanish Fort, AL.

The Veterans’ Day celebration began in 2015 to pay tribute to those who defend our freedom and may not have received the heroes’ welcome those returning from WWII did. Veterans, friends, and families of our military continue to support this event and show their support for those that have or continue to fight for our freedom.

“To say that we are thrilled to have Publix as our Title Sponsor for the Battleship 12K is a huge understatement.  Not only has Publix been supporting endurance and running events for years in Florida and Georgia, but Publix has also been recognized by Forbes as one of the best employers for Veterans,” said Craig Sweeney, Strategic Partnerships Director.

The event continues to grow from just under 600 runners in the Inaugural year of 2015 to over 2,600 runners in 2021.  Registration opens on April 21st for 22 hours starting at a deeply reduced rate of $22 to support Run To Honor Military Charity Partners.  America’s Warrior Partnership, Mission 22 and Team RWB are the Battleship 12K Charity Partners and Corporate Partners will match donations during this 22-hour registration launch.

“My father served in Vietnam and earned a Purple Heart during his service,” said Michael Wattigny, Marketing Director for FRESHJUNKIE Racing. “He didn’t receive a heroes’ welcome when he returned. He was spit on and called names. I founded this race as a way to say ‘Thank You’ in a loud and vocal way to all of the men and women who have served our country.”
