From its iconic views throughout the California coast to its steadfast commitment to sustainable practices, the Big Sur Marathon Foundation and Recover Brands have worked together since 2018 to have a positive impact on our environment through this bucket list race.
The 2025 edition of this marathon along “Ragged Edge of the Western World” was no different. As the “Official Sustainability Sponsor” of the Big Sur International Marathon, Recover Brands proudly provided the highly anticipated participant shirts, volunteer shirts, Green Team shirts and race merchandise once again.
By using 100% recycled and certified materials, manufacturing within a HyperLocalTM Supply Chain, and creating a fully circular system to take back and recycle old or unused shirts, the Big Sur International Marathon and Recover has collectively saved the following for the 2025 race alone:
The Recover team activated throughout the weekend by having ambassadors and staff take on the 26.2-mile course, as well as having their 360 Closed Loop Apparel Recycling Program available at the 2-day Health & Fitness Expo, where they collected over 140 lbs of old and unused shirts that were destined for the landfill. Recover will break these items down and turn them back into apparel, which could very well be used for more merchandise at Big Sur Foundation’s sister event, the Monterey Bay Half Marathon in November!
Working together and leading with a holistic approach towards sustainability is a way for environmental champions like the Big Sur Foundation and Recover Brands to reinforce that we, as an entire industry, have a responsibility to appreciate and care for the areas where we live, work, train, and race!
