The 2025 cycling event generated hundreds of thousands for the local community and broke fundraising records

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – A new report from Visit Oceanside, the Official Destination Marketing organization for the City of Oceanside, has found that the 2025 Bike the Coast event generated an estimated economic impact of nearly $700,000. They also noted that the event supports over 372 jobs with the strongest effects in food/beverage, retail and lodging. The report estimated that over $402,000 in impact was created directly in the Oceanside community, and nearly $284,000 in impact was generated indirectly in the region. The report results also come after a notable fundraising year for the cycling event, raising over $10,000 for Bike MS, a record amount for the event after just three years of partnering with the organization.

Over 1,700 riders are expected at the 2026 event taking place Oct. 24. Participants of the event can choose from a variety of distances, including the 7 and 15-mile Family Rides that take riders through the San Luis Rey River Trail, as well as the 25, 50 and 100-mile routes that journey through several historic beach towns, including Oceanside, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Solana Beach and Del Mar. All participants wrap up their rides at the Oceanside Pier, where the infamous Bike the Coast Finish Festival takes place. The festival is open to the public and features various local vendors and performers, as well as the beer garden hosted by BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse, with proceeds benefiting Bike MS.

“One of our main goals with the Bike the Coast event is to make it a true community celebration, whether you’re taking part in the ride or simply enjoying our free and open to the public Finish Festival,” said Mike Bone, president and CEO of Spectrum Sports Management, producer of Bike the Coast. “While the event continues to be a staple event for the San Diego cycling community, we hope to grow it into something embraced by the broader community as well. Already, we’re able to see the major impact it has on the local business community through our engagement with them and in this new report from Visit Oceanside.”

Bike the Coast is produced by Spectrum Sports Management Inc., a recognized leader in endurance and sporting events in Southern California. Earlier this year, Spectrum Sports Management announced the expansion of Bike the Coast, bringing the cycling event to the City of Ventura for the inaugural Bike the Coast Ventura ride on June 13. The event welcomes riders of all ages and experience levels, offering three course options: the Metric Century 65-mile ride, a 35-mile ride and the rider’s favorite 17-mile family ride. Bike the Coast Ventura will benefit the National MS Society and Bike MS, organizations dedicated to supporting those affected by multiple sclerosis through research, advocacy, and community programs.
