Two athletes to individually compete for $2,500 each

Davenport, Iowa – Two athletes have been selected to be the Russell Break the Tape competitors. They were selected from entries received by June 30, 2022. They will be given a head start based on their previous finishes. If they beat the first elite runner to the finish line, they will each receive $2,500 from this rebranded event’s sponsor, Russell Group. The Russell Group joined the Quad-City Times Bix7 in 2022 as a new platinum sponsor. The Break the Tape Competition was formally known as Beat the Elite Competition.

This year’s competitors are Olivia Moore and Sam Russell. Olivia, a 23 year old from Iowa City, is a student at the University of Iowa. Sam is a 33 year old resident of Davenport. This is the first time in several years that Quad-City Times Bix 7 has invited a new platinum sponsor to the QC Times Bix 7 family of sponsors, and we agreed Sam running it for charity this year (River Music Experience in Davenport) would be a fun way to celebrate and mark the occasion.
