Dave McGillivray’s Finish Strong Foundation welcomes patients from Shriners Children’s for play and practice with new prostheses
BOSTON – As part of their Running Is A Right program, the Dave McGillivray Finish Strong Foundation hosted a private events on July 12 and 19 for patients of Shriners Children’s living with limb loss at C.K. McClatchy High School Track in Sacramento, Calif. and Tualatin Hills Athletic Center in Beaverton, Ore. There, specialists from Shriners Children’s Pediatric Orthotics and Prosthetics Services (POPS) helped them reach their running potential. 22 children took part in the events and 21 new running blades were provided at no cost by the foundation. Participants had a chance to experience running and other activities on recreational prosthetics.
The event allowed children with limb loss to make connections with other children who share their experiences, as well as experience the active lifestyle that recreational prosthetics make possible. They were treated to other free gifts, snacks and refreshments during the event.
“Any day you’re able to provide a child with the tools and training they need to get off the sidelines and into the game is a good day,” said Brooke Rasch, the creator and chair of the Running is a Right program. “We’re so proud of this program, which is aligned with the foundation’s mission to help kids move more!”
