Sunday’s events will feature a similar course as 2019, and Saturday’s events will now cross the Andy Warhol Bridge before finishing Downtown; more than 40,000 expected for Weekend of Events, scheduled for April 29-May 1

PITTSBURGH, PA – Today P3R revealed the courses for the highly anticipated return of the 2022 DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon Weekend of Events, scheduled for April 29-May 1. Sunday’s events will feature a similar course as 2019, and Saturday’s 5K and Kids Marathon will now cross the Andy Warhol Bridge before finishing Downtown.

“With some of the best views of the city and a tour of 14 neighborhoods, our course is one of the reasons why runners love to come back year-after-year to run our race,” said Troy Schooley, P3R CEO. “Each year the crowd support along the course is incredible. No other city has fans like Pittsburgh, and those fans show up on race day, cheering our runners all the way to the finish line.”

This year’s courses will provide a one-of-a-kind experience that gives a tour of Pittsburgh across three rivers and bridges, each with their own distinct architecture and incredible city views. In the 26.2 mile race, runners will run past PNC Park (home to the Pittsburgh Pirates) and Heinz Field (home to the legendary Pittsburgh Steelers) and through 14 unique neighborhoods featuring festivals, bands, and cheerathoners who will keep participants motivated and smiling all the way to the finish line.

The UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon course will follow the first 11 miles of the Pittsburgh Marathon. After the Birmingham Bridge, the courses will split with Pittsburgh Half Marathon participants returning Downtown on 5th Avenue. This year P3R is unveiling a second half marathon course exclusively for those who fundraise $1,500 or more for an official charity of their choice. Only 500 runners will have the opportunity to experience the new course with the start line in Shadyside.

“I’ve run the Pittsburgh Half Marathon a few times in years past and did the virtual option the last two years,” said Austin Dietrich, who will be running the race again this year. “I’ve been dying to come back and run the real race again because it’s such an outstanding race. I’ve run plenty of big races and something about this one, this city, this experience just gets me more excited than some other races.”

After starting on the North Shore, Saturday’s 5K and Kids Marathon will now cross the Andy Warhol Bridge instead of the Roberto Clemente Bridge (closed for rehab project) before finishing Downtown on Boulevard of the Allies.

P3R and Steel City Road Runners will host a free course preview training run on Saturday, April 9.
