GRAND ISLAND, NE — March 09, 2026  — The Nebraska State Fair has selected Colorado-based HAL Sports to manage and produce the Nebraska State Fair Marathon race weekend scheduled for August 29 during the 2026 Nebraska State Fair.

Race distances include:

·         Marathon (certified Boston Qualifier)

·         Half-Marathon

·         Marathon Relay

·         5K

·         1-Mile Kid Run

The marathon and half marathon will also include push-rim wheelchair and handcycle divisions, with dedicated competitive categories and awards.

Now in its 12th year, the Nebraska State Fair Marathon has become a unique tradition that blends the excitement of race day with the energy and heritage of the State Fair. Runners from 35+ states and around the world gather each year to kick off the fair by running through Grand Island and finishing inside the fairgrounds before enjoying a full day of festivities.

The partnership with HAL Sports brings together one of the country’s most experienced endurance event producers with one of Nebraska’s most historic annual traditions. The State Fair race weekend has long been a favorite among runners and families alike, offering participants a unique opportunity to experience the excitement of the fair while celebrating fitness, community, and Nebraska pride.

“Running and community celebrations go hand in hand, and there is no gathering in Nebraska more iconic than the State Fair,” said Lonnie Somers, Chief HAL Officer of HAL Sports. “We’re honored to partner with the Nebraska State Fair to grow this race weekend and build on its tradition. Our goal is to create an experience that celebrates the spirit of Nebraska while welcoming runners of every age and ability to be part of something special.”

Through its partnership with HAL Sports, the State Fair aims to enhance the race experience for participants while expanding its reach to new runners and families.

“This race has been part of the Nebraska State Fair for many years, and it’s been a privilege to help guide it as race director and now as co-race director working alongside HAL Sports,” said Angie Wenzl, co-race director of the Nebraska State Fair Marathon. “There’s a lot of history behind this event, and I’m excited to see it continue to grow while staying true to what runners and our community value most.”

Participants in the race weekend receive a commemorative finisher medal, official race shirt, admission to the Nebraska State Fair, post-race snacks and beverages, and a complimentary beverage at the fairgrounds, creating a race experience that continues long after runners cross the finish line.
