21,000 runners and walkers will race in this year’s “America’s Friendliest Marathon”
RICHMOND, VA – Today, for the second consecutive year and the second time ever, the Allianz Richmond Marathon race weekend has sold out across all three distances — the marathon, CarMax Richmond Half Marathon, and the Capital One Richmond 8k. A total of 21,000 runners and walkers will take to the streets in downtown Richmond on Saturday, November 14, for the 49th running of “America’s Friendliest Marathon”.
The Capital One Richmond 8k course winds through downtown Richmond and Virginia Commonwealth University, showcasing fall foliage and the race’s signature downhill finish. Participants can expect an enthusiastic crowd as the community comes together with live music and energy, welcoming all to the Richmond community.
“With the Capital One Richmond 8k now full, every distance has sold out for a second straight year, and that’s something for our entire region to celebrate! The sellout is a reflection of the volunteers, sponsors, and neighbors who make race day special, and it gives the Sports Backers and Allianz Richmond Marathon team tremendous momentum as we prepare for the milestone 50th anniversary of the event in 2027,” said Will Dixon, Executive Director of Sports Backers.
Runners still hoping to participate can join a waiting list for any of the three distances. Those on the list will be notified if a spot becomes available and will have 24 hours to accept. The waitlist will remain open through October 30, the final deadline for deferring entries. Waitlist members will also be among the first to learn when registration opens for the 50th running of the Richmond Marathon.
A limited number of Capital One Richmond 8k charity entries are also available. Fundraisers who raise $300 in support of Sports Backers Youth Programs, Kids On The Move and ALL Stars, will receive a complimentary race entry for the Capital One Richmond 8k on November 14, 2026. Spots are first-come, first-served.
