Duties
Plans, coordinates, and produces presentations and press conferences. Coordinates outreach to attract celebrities as guest speakers, starters, and entertainers for various events.
Communicates directly with local governments and the White house to request local government, gubernatorial, and presidential proclamations for the races.
Facilitates and manages all communication of ceremonial event starters, celebrities, and other special guests. Coordinates mascots and banner holders for MCMO events. Oversees and works with the graphic team to assemble media guide.
Oversees production and writes articles for race programs as well as any dedicated external articles. Facilitates and writes all external communication, such as monthly newsletters, runners’ emails and sponsored dedication emails. Serves as liaison to sister services, Headquarters Marine Corps, and base Public Affairs Offices.
Writes and edits articles, organizes information, and serves as production editor. Produces camera-ready copy using desktop publishing software. Writes press releases for base/local newspaper and trade publications. Maintains press release and press clips files and photo morgue. Organizes, tabulates, and manages primary research data for surveys. Enters survey data and produces reports. Monitors all MCMO media coverage and assembles analyses and coverage reports. Prepares financial plan and related records and reports.
Monitors programs on a regular basis and initiates corrective action to ensure support of operating programs of MCMO. Develops long-range plans for event promotions. Sets up interviews for management to include TV, printed media, and articles. Works closely with sister services, such as Arlington County Police Public Affairs Information Officer, Communication Strategy and Operations, MCBQ and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service, on event documentation, media relations, and crisis communication.
Plans, coordinates, and facilitates all media functions in relation to MCMO events to include management of media credentialing, press conferences, live interviews and streaming as well as all communication dissemination of Marine Corps Historic Half and Marine Corps Marathon Weekends.
Builds and maintains relationships with media contacts. Plans and pitches local, regional, domestic, and international media on human interest stories pertaining to the major MCMO events. Serve as the main point of contact to all media and be a resource to help drive earned media in relation to the organization and all events. Writes any necessary materials and assists in the coordination of marketing events to include opening ceremonies, special dinners, and appreciation programs. Works closely with sponsorship team on facilitation of media sponsors and fulfillments.
May assist in the coordination, planning, and managing of the organization’s social media strategy, editorial calendar, and published content on all MCMO social media channels. May survey and track the organization’s social footprint and activity. Writes and proofreads materials published to the website, internally and externally.
May be required to travel to attend MCMO races, meetings and expos to promote races and events. May assist in preparations for MCMO races and events by setting up cones, tents, start and finish lines and other race requirements. May be required to stand for extended periods of times.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree Public Affairs, Marketing, or a related field appropriate to the work of position AND three years of substantial experience in marketing, public affairs, communications, journalism; OR an appropriate combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of knowledge and skill equivalent to that gained in the above; OR appropriate experience that demonstrates that the applicant has acquired the knowledge, skills, and abilities equivalent to that gained in the above.
Excellent communications skills, both oral and written. Knowledge and skill in developing written and printed materials.
Skill in the use of personal computers and associated software.
Must possess and maintain a valid State Driver’s License.
