Proceeds from the event benefited YMCA food pantry programs and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank

PITTSBURGH, PA  – More than 6,400 participants from 40 states plus Canada and Great Britain started their Thanksgiving by moving with friends and family while making a difference at the 32nd YMCA Turkey Trot presented by UPMC Health Plan. Proceeds from the event benefited the YMCA food pantry programs and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.

“The Turkey Trot has helped make a difference in the Pittsburgh community since 1991,” said Amy Kienle, president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh. “For so many, the event is a chance to come together, give thanks for our blessings and give back to support our friends and neighbors in need.”

Participants ages 11 months to 86 years crossed the finish line on the North Shore at the 1-Mile Family Fun Run presented by Busy Beaver, the 5K presented by UPMC Health Plan, and the 5-Mile presented by FedEx. More than 200 participants completed the Double Gobble presented by Gentile, Horoho & Avalli, P.C., running both the 5K and the 5-Mile races.

Many celebrated the holiday by participating in the costume contest and wore their finest turkey ensembles and pie hats. Even the Grinch was spotted in the crowd. In addition, more than 200 participated virtually this year, completing their event whenever and wherever worked for them.

“The Turkey Trot has become a longstanding Thanksgiving tradition for many families in the region,” said Troy Schooley, P3R CEO. “The event embraces the essence of Thanksgiving and is a chance to MOVE with close friends and family, and have a feel-good moment as you cross the finish line together.”
