Pioneers Podcast Goes Behind the Curtain on Adidas’s Sub-2 Marathon Shoe (WR)

Let’s Do This’s Pioneers podcast releases its latest episode this week, sitting down with Marc Makowski, SVP of Creative Direction & Innovation at Adidas, and Patrick Nava, GM of Running at Adidas, inside the brand’s innovation lab at its Herzogenaurach headquarters.

The episode unpacks the story behind the Pro Evo 3, the shoe worn by Sawe when he became the first athlete to break two hours in an official marathon at this year’s London Marathon.

The conversation offers a rare, direct look at how one of the sport’s biggest brands makes decisions that matter to the wider running industry: the criteria Adidas uses to decide which races and partners are worth backing, what the brand wishes event organizers understood about building longer term partnerships rather than single day sponsorships, and how Adidas rebuilt its position in running after ceding ground to challenger brands in recent years.

‘This one’s as much for race organizers as it is for runners,’ said Sam Browne, Co-founder and CEO of Let’s Do This, and host of Pioneers. ‘Patrick and Marc are candid about the team mentality to keep pushing to new heights and what actually earns the brand’s backing.’

The episode is available now and follows Pioneers’ first episode with Hugh Brasher, CEO of London Marathon Events.
