Through thoughtfully designed service packages, we deliver the premium strategy of a large agency with the efficiency and accessibility endurance event organizers need. Every campaign is built on proven methods, measured results, and a commitment to helping our clients go the distance.
At Treat PR, we believe great public relations is about creating the relationships, trust, and momentum that move an event from “I’ve never heard of this race” to “I’m signing up.” We serve as trusted advisors to our clients, helping them share stories that connect with participants, engage stakeholders, and strengthen their place within the communities they serve.

About The Role
Treat PR is running the game when it comes to running and endurance events, but we can’t do it alone! We need a new team member to help us tell the stories of some of the largest, most well-known, and most innovative endurance races in the country.
Our part-time Intern will act as a communications technician, working directly with our firm’s leaders to bring our strategic public relations plans to life and gaining critical experience to launch your PR path. You’ll be supporting real client work, and even have the opportunity to work on-site at some of the most exciting endurance events in the country. Our Intern will be a total go-getter, an enthusiastic learner, and feel passionate about our mission and vision.
This role is part-time and temporary. We expect the person who takes on this role to begin in September 2026 and complete their internship in December 2026. This intern role may require up to 20 hours per week. These hours will generally be completed during the weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Sometimes, these hours will be completed on weekends at potentially very early hours. (We are regularly arriving at events at 4 or 5 a.m., meaning we were up and en route there even earlier.)
We will work with you to develop a general schedule of hours for weeks without weekend events. For weekend events, you will be provided with a schedule of hours in advance.
Duties + Responsibilities
In public relations and in the running event industry, no day is the same! We wear many hats and always adapt to best serve our clients. That said, the primary responsibilities of this role will include:
- Media Relations – about 60% of your time per week
- Drafting press releases, media pitches, advisories and more
- Assist with media credential collection and tracking
- Creating media resources like press kits, fact sheets, backgrounders, and more
- Researching, building, and updating media lists
- Monitoring media trends and client mentions
- Collecting race weekend photos and videos for media use
- Conducting media monitoring and compiling coverage reports
- Community Relations – about 10% of your time per week
- Researching running clubs, nonprofits, and local businesses
- Compiling and publishing postings to community calendars
- Copywriting and editing – about 20% of your time per week
- Writing copy for social media posts, email marketing, websites, and more
- Account Support – about 10% of your time per week
- Providing status reports during internal Treat PR team meetings
- Taking notes during team and client meetings
Race Weekends – Keyword: Weekend.
Most of our clients hold their endurance sports events on the weekends. This means we’re often traveling or on-call on Saturdays and Sundays. When this happens, we shift our schedule slightly to ensure that we maintain work-life balance and that we’re ready to tackle the weekend. Although we don’t have client events occurring every single weekend, our schedule is consistently updating and no limits on weekend availability is key.
Remote Work + Travel
Yep, you can work from home in your sweatpants! While this position will be remote, we are looking for a team member based in Orange County, California. Our team meets in person, attends local PR industry events, and travels to our client events together from the OC.
Speaking of travel, this role will include travel, sometimes local to Southern California and sometimes cross-country. We can share more about the specific events that you would be supporting during the interview process, ensuring that you have availability during those critical times. Applicants should hold a RealID to ensure smooth travel via plane when required.
During our travel to client events, please be advised that we are outdoors and on our feet for most of the day. We occasionally need to carry and load equipment during those on-site visits.
