The Sweetest Race in Texas Returns June 20, 2026 with New Courses, Fresh Swag, Family Fun, and Scenic Views Along Lake Lewisville

May 21, 2026 – Little Elm, TEXAS – Run Project is excited to announce the return of the annual Melon Dash 10K, 5K & Fun Run on Saturday, June 20, 2026, featuring one of the biggest transformations in the event’s history.

Known throughout North Texas as “The Sweetest Race in Texas,” the beloved summer running event is relocating to beautiful Little Elm Park along the shores of Lake Lewisville, bringing with it brand-new race courses, upgraded race amenities, and an enhanced festival-style experience for runners and families alike.

The 2026 edition of Melon Dash continues Run Project’s mission of creating community-focused race experiences that go beyond the finish line. Participants can choose between the 10K, 5K, or Fun Run distances while enjoying scenic waterfront views, summer-themed race swag, post-race refreshments, and family-friendly entertainment designed to celebrate the start of summer in North Texas.

The move to Little Elm Park marks a major milestone for the event. The new venue offers expanded space, convenient parking, scenic lakefront views, and a vibrant atmosphere that perfectly matches the race’s energetic summer identity. With Lake Lewisville serving as the backdrop, runners will experience a refreshing new setting unlike any previous Melon Dash course.

“Melon Dash has always been about creating a fun, welcoming race experience that people look forward to year after year,” said Run Project Race Director Rob Ostrout. “The move to Little Elm Park allows us to elevate every aspect of race day — from the scenery and post-race celebration to the overall participant experience. We’re excited to introduce new courses, fresh summer swag, and even more reasons for runners and families to spend the day with us by the lake.”

🌊 What’s New for 2026

The 2026 event introduces several exciting upgrades and additions, including:

● NEW Lakefront Venue: Little Elm Park on Lake Lewisville

● NEW 10K & 5K Courses: Updated race routes designed to showcase the lakefront scenery

● NEW Summer-Inspired Tech Shirts: Bright, bold race shirts inspired by watermelon colors and summer vibes

● VIP Options: VIP registrants get premier parking + 1 16 oz margarita provided by Margarita Hut

● Expanded Festival Atmosphere: More room for sponsor activations, giveaways, and family fun

Participants will also enjoy all of the race traditions that have helped Melon Dash become a favorite summer event within the DFW running community, including refreshing watermelon at the finish line, finisher medals, sponsor goodies, music, and ice-cold drinks at the post-race celebration.

The event welcomes runners and walkers of all experience levels. Competitive runners can chase a fast summer 10K or 5K, while casual participants and families can enjoy the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere of the Fun Run. Run Project organizers expect strong participation once again in 2026 following the event’s growing popularity in recent years.

A Summer Tradition for the Entire Family

Unlike many traditional road races, Melon Dash is intentionally designed to create an experience that extends beyond the race itself. Organizers describe the event as part race, part summer festival, and part family outing.

Families can enjoy the sponsor village, interactive activities, scenic park setting, and post-race gathering areas throughout Little Elm Park. The combination of waterfront scenery,

summer-themed branding, and community atmosphere has helped Melon Dash stand out as one of the more unique race experiences in North Texas.

The event’s vibrant watermelon theme continues to be one of its signature attractions. From race medals and shirts to refreshments and race-day décor, the event embraces colorful summer energy that resonates with both seasoned runners and first-time participants.

Supporting Local Community Partners

The 2026 Melon Dash will also continue supporting local nonprofit organizations through Run Project’s “Run Local. Give Local.” initiative. Featured charity partner Animal Rescue Crusaders of Texas (ARC) will once again be highlighted during race weekend. ARC is a North Texas nonprofit organization focused on rescuing and rehoming abandoned cats and kittens throughout the region. Stop by their fun and engaging photo booth on race day and get a free photo.

Run Project regularly partners with local charities to help raise awareness and encourage community involvement through its events.
