Free Backup Timing, Automated Photos, Real-Time Announcer Mode
Moorestown, NJ — June 24, 2026 — RunSignup today announces the release of RaceDay Mobile version 6, a major update that includes a rebranding, previously known as RaceDay Mobile Timing app. The new name reflects the app’s expanded role on race day. Beyond backup or manual timing, it now serves as an automated photo capture system and a real-time announcer tool — providing a free easy-to-use race day field tool for event organizers, timers, and race directors who use RunSignup’s registration platform.
“This new release broadens advancements to the RaceDay technology capabilities in the app,” said James Harris, Chief Technology Officer for RunSignup’s EventDay products. “As this product has matured, we continue to add utilities and features that help timers and race directors leverage race day technology from Apple and Android devices, automating and integrating data with the different parts of the RunSignup and RaceDay platforms.”
A New Name for a Broader Mission
The RaceDay Mobile Timing app originally focused on providing backup timing for timers and an option for smaller event, remote manual timing. Since then.the app’s features have expanded to include automated photo capturing that integrates real-time with RaceDay Scoring and RunSignup’s Photo platform and the latest advancement of its real-time Announcer Mode delivering continuous participant updates and at-a-glance information. With version 6, the rebrand to RaceDay Mobile signals RunSignup’s intent to offer this free app as a way to conveniently expand on features supporting the race day experience utilizing the RaceDay platform of products.
Real-Time Announcer Mode
The recently launched Announcer Mode offered in the RaceDay Mobile app delivers a continuous stream of participant data to an announcer’s mobile device or tablet, providing the information necessary to identify runners in real time and provide informed commentary as they cross split points on the course or the finish line. Participant data — including name, hometown, finish time, age group, and any custom messages — is pulled directly from RaceDay Scoring as chip reads come in and pushed instantly to devices on the same local network. Setup is now easier than ever: announcers can get up and running with a simple QR code scan from RaceDay Scoring, no manual configuration required. The card-based display is optimized for handheld use, so announcers can stay mobile, engage with the crowd, and deliver a personalized experience without being tethered to a laptop.
Automated Photo Capture Triggered by Timing Data
RaceDay Mobile’s photo integration provides a fully automated race photo solution — capturing photos, uploading them directly to RunSignup, and automatically tagging bib numbers so each image is associated with the correct participant and displayed on their individual results page. Version 6 brings several improvements to this capability, including a new automated photo trigger driven by chip read data from RaceDay Scoring, a configurable capture delay to ensure runners are in frame, and improved error detection and user feedback for camera and upload issues.
Improved Backup Timing Experience
The app’s backup timing capabilities remain central to version 6, with an updated gun shot marker experience that makes it faster and more intuitive to record race start times. Backup timing data continues to sync automatically, giving timers a reliable safety net without additional manual effort.
What’s Coming Next
The RunSignup team is already working on the next wave of RaceDay Mobile features, including automated photo triggering based on human detection within a defined frame area — allowing photos to be captured the moment a runner enters the shot, independent of chip data. Coming out in RaceDay Scoring this month is a fully automated backup timing pipeline that uses bib tags from photos to generate timing reads in RaceDay Scoring, creating a closed-loop system where photos serve double duty as both race memories and backup timing records. In addition, this technology could provide for an inexpensive way to generate split data based on photo bib detection for real-time course tracking in RaceJoy.

RaceDay Mobile V6 is available now on iOS and Android and is free for events and timers using RunSignup’s registration platform.
