August 24, 2023 – HAMPTON, VIRGINIA – With over 2,500 runners expected to descend into Hampton the first weekend of October, the BayPort Foundation Crawlin’ Crab Half Marathon & 5K presented by Bon Secours is primed to be a spectacular experience.

New for 2023 is a brand new and very scenic 5K course which will include the Waterwalk Path, a raised wooden path over the water showcasing the wildlife in the area including herons and various types of crabs along with a stunning view of the Hampton Coliseum. Runners will also be treated to Bluebird Gap Farm where various animals including goats, donkeys, and even a tortoise will cheer runners on halfway through the course.

“We’re excited to give the 5K a new stage and breathe new life into race weekend. The City of Hampton has created this new path and now participants will have an opportunity to enjoy what this new course has to offer. The weekend offers so much energy and I think this new course will celebrate runners.” muses co-race director, Jerry Frostick

Crawlin’ Crab weekend spans over the whole weekend with a 5K on Saturday, October 7 and the Half Marathon on October 8. Crawlin’ Crab also offers a kids 1K on Saturday. Many participants will take part in the Shell Yeah Challenge running both the 5K and the Half Marathon. Both races showcase the iconic scenic views through Hampton. The race doesn’t end at the finish line. J&A is also known for their post-race celebrations. Crawlin’ Crab is no different. Once participants finish, they are treated to craft beer from New Belgium Brewing and Devil’s Backbone, and live music from Audiohum on Saturday and Kaboombox on Sunday.
