Virginia Beach, VA – October 31, 2026 – The Virginia Beach Oceanfront was transformed into a hauntingly good time this past weekend as J&A Racing hosted a sold-out Wicked 10K & 5K Weekend presented by Sentara. With 6,900 registrants, the event saw a 13% increase in participation compared to last year. The event drew runners from 32 states and 4 countries cementing its status as Coastal Virginia’s largest Halloween race and party.

This year’s event was made even more special by a rare calendar alignment—race day fell squarely on Halloween itself, adding an extra layer of magic (and mischief) to the festivities. The weekend kicked off Friday night with the Monster Mile, where runners earned the first piece of their challenge bling. Many participants returned Saturday morning to tackle the 10K or 5K, completing the coveted Pumpkin Smash Challenge (Monster Mile + 10K) or the Bat’s Brew Challenge (Monster Mile + 5K).

While the flat and fast oceanfront course is a draw, the main attraction remained the legendary costume contest. From elaborate group themes to incredibly detailed solo outfits, participants brought their absolute best to compete for top costume awards—and with the race landing on actual Halloween, the stakes (and the creativity) reached new heights. Following the race, the celebration continued at the post-race party right on the beach, where runners refueled with cold drinks, warm soup, live entertainment, and the unique camaraderie that only the Wicked weekend can provide.

The weekend also gave back in a big way: participants helped raise $7,500 for Spike’s K9 Fund, supporting the organization’s mission to equip working K9s with protective vests and essential gear.

“This isn’t just a race; it’s a moving Halloween party,” said Amy Frostick, Race Director. “The commitment our participants make to their costumes is incredible. And running on Halloween itself made it feel like the whole oceanfront was in on the fun. Seeing that level of creativity, with people traveling from all over to be part of it, is what makes the Wicked weekend so special.”

“From the Trick or Treat stops and Zombie Zone to the post-race party on the sand, every detail is designed with our participants’ enjoyment in mind,” added Jerry Frostick, Race Director. “The sight of thousands of costumed runners taking over the oceanfront on actual Halloween is something you have to see to believe. We can’t wait to do it all again next year.”
