BISMARCK, ND – The Bismarck Marathon presented by MDU Resources, North Dakota’s longest-running marathon, continues to establish itself as a top-tier destination for serious runners and community impact. As one of only USATF-certified courses in North Dakota that serves as an official Boston Marathon Qualifier, the event has become a cornerstone for athletes seeking personal bests and a gateway to the world’s most prestigious road races.

The Bismarck Marathon features a fast, flat, and fully paved course that parallels the breathtaking scenery of the Missouri River. With its USATF certification and its designation as an AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Rankings marathon, the race consistently delivers high performance. In 2025, approximately 8.3% of the field achieved Boston Qualifying times, ranking it among the most efficient qualifying courses in the region.

Beyond the speed of the course, the event remains deeply rooted in its mission of philanthropy. Last year alone, the Bismarck Marathon gave back over $35,000 to local charities, contributing to a monumental total of more than $700,000 donated since 2007. These funds support various local organizations focused on youth, health, and wellness, including the YMCA Strong Kids campaign and the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile.

“While we take great pride in our standing as a premier qualifying race, the heart of the Bismarck Marathon has always been our community,” said race co-director Patrick Johnson. “Every runner who crosses the finish line at the North Dakota State Capitol is contributing to a legacy of giving that has spanned nearly two decades. Whether you are a world-class athlete chasing a sub-3-hour time or a first-time participant, you are part of an event that moves North Dakota forward.”

The marathon weekend offers a distance for every level of competitor, including the full marathon, half marathon, five-person relay, 10K, and 5K. The signature route now features a picture-perfect start and finish at the North Dakota State Capitol Grounds, taking runners through historic downtown neighborhoods and lush parklands.
