At Running USA, we recognize that while the work of event professionals is purposeful and rewarding, it can also be physically and emotionally demanding. After major endurance events, it’s especially important to prioritize the well-being of not only our participants and partners—but also your staff.
Here are a few ways to support yourself and each other in the post-event period:
1. Take a Pause
Encourage one another to take short breaks, even if it’s just a few minutes. A moment outside, deep breathing, or a short walk can offer meaningful reset time. Recovery starts with acknowledging when your body or mind needs rest.
2. Use Available Resources
Remember to utilize support services provided through your insurance plan, such as counseling sessions, mental health apps, and wellness tools. These are there for you—use them as needed, not just in crisis moments.
3. Peer Support & Post-Event Debriefing
Check in with your colleagues. Sometimes, a conversation with someone who understands the unique challenges of event work can be the most powerful support. Consider informal debriefs or scheduled wellness chats to help process the experience together.
4. Boundaries & Compassion Fatigue
It’s okay to say, “I need a break,” or “Can someone else step in?” Recognizing emotional fatigue isn’t a sign of weakness—it’s a sign of self-awareness. If you’re feeling overwhelmed or depleted, please reach out to HR. We’re here to support you.
Let’s Lead with Care
Caring for others begins with caring for ourselves. Let’s foster a culture rooted in wellness, empathy, and resilience—together.
