MADISON, Wis. — Thousands of athletes, families and spectators filled the streets of Madison over Memorial Day weekend as Run Madtown returned May 23-24, 2026, for a vibrant celebration of running, inclusivity and community spirit. The annual event featured the Twilight 5K, Rudy’s Rainbow Mile, 10K and Half Marathon, welcoming participants of all ages and abilities to the University of Wisconsin campus and iconic Madison landmarks.
With near-perfect running conditions throughout the weekend, the Run Madtown flock was greeted by perfect running temperatures and calm winds that created an ideal atmosphere for both competitive racing and first-time participants. From elite athletes chasing fast times to families and friends enjoying the festival-like environment, Run Madtown once again showcased why it has become one of Wisconsin’s Memorial Day weekend traditions.
Saturday evening’s festivities brought energy and color to downtown Madison with the return of the Twilight 5K and the debut of Rudy’s Rainbow Mile. The new one-mile event honored beloved community member Rudy Rosbeck-Ledesma while supporting LGBTQ+ youth organization Courage+. Designed to be welcoming and inclusive for runners and walkers alike, Rudy’s Rainbow Mile quickly became one of the weekend’s most emotional and uplifting highlights.
Another Saturday night highlight was the performance of Badger Challenge Charity Chaser Amos Karlsen, who started last in the 5K event yet passed all but four other runners to earn over $700 for the cancer combatting non-profit.
Adding to the celebratory atmosphere was the popular Unicorn Snot Glitter Bar, where participants and spectators embraced the weekend’s playful spirit with colorful, skin-safe glitter before heading out onto the course. The activation reflected Run Madtown’s emphasis on individuality, inclusivity and creating an experience that extends far beyond the finish line.
Families were a major part of the weekend experience, with youth participants, cheering spectators, mascot appearances and interactive sponsor activations helping transform the event into a community festival for all ages. Participants loved the opportunities to take photos with signs from LED Marquee and the course map created by Tokens of Art, and find their names on the participant wall from Morgan’s Shoes that featured all early registrants.
“In true Run Madtown spirit, this weekend delivered entertainment and engagement for everyone in the flock,” said Beth Salinger, Race Director. “We thank our sponsors, city and University partners, over 500 amazing volunteers and of course, our participants and their families for making the 2026 Run Madtown weekend one of the best yet! Can’t wait to see you again next year.”
