Colorado’s largest running event to feature new event logo and increase commitment to charity

(DENVER, CO.) Nov. 5, 2021 – Denver Colfax Marathon announced today a new title sponsorship agreement with global health service company Cigna (NYSE: CI) that will propel Denver’s largest running event to an even bigger stage on the national running scene.

The arrangement will provide Denver Colfax Marathon with a title sponsor that is committed to partnering to help make the race “world class” as it enters its 16th year.

“We are extremely excited about forming a partnership with Cigna that will enable us to take our running event to new heights in Colorado and the U.S.,” said Marathon CEO, Andrea Dowdy.

The Denver Colfax Marathon is scheduled for May 13-15, 2022 and is expected to attract over 20,000 participants next year, as one of the top 25 marathon events in the nation.

Cigna has more than 1,800 employees in Colorado, and its Mountain States region is headquartered in Denver. The company is committed to building healthy communities with a focus on childhood nutrition, physical activity, healthy living and mental health.

“At Cigna, we are focused on whole person health and recognize the benefits of physical activity and social connection on people’s physical health and mental well-being,” said John Roble, President of Cigna Mountain States. “Our title sponsorship of the Denver Colfax Marathon is a great opportunity to promote a healthy lifestyle and support the Denver community.”

As part of its sponsorship, Cigna is funding a special incentive to encourage early registration. For each runner who registers from November 5 through November 30, Cigna will donate $25 to the overall non-profit fundraising pool that is distributed to local charities after the race. The Denver Colfax Marathon has one of the largest Charity Partner Programs in the U.S., with over 200 non-profits using the marathon to raise funds and awareness each year. This Cigna donation will benefit charity partners, including Girls on the Run, who will now be able to send 2,400 local girls to participate in the 2022 race.

Denver Colfax Marathon created the Corporate, Government and Open Relay, which is now the largest relay event in the U.S. with 1,300 teams participating each year. Companies have created traditions to win their industry competition. Denver Colfax Marathon has established a prize pool of $100,000 for teams in divisions such as Healthcare, Finance, Construction, Government and Public Schools. Winning teams designate their favorite Charity Partner to receive their prizes.

The 2022 Denver Colfax Marathon weekend will include a marathon, half marathon, 10 miler, 5K and the nation’s largest marathon relay with corporate, government and open divisions. Cigna will also be the title sponsor of the health and fitness expo at Empower Field at Mile High Stadium, which attracts over 40,000 attendees on Friday and Saturday of race weekend.

The Denver Colfax Marathon offers a unique and entertaining course through the cities of Denver and Lakewood featuring Colfax Avenue, the longest “main street” in America. Scenic highlights for runners include City Park, Empower Field, the Denver Zoo, a Denver Fire Station and the streets of Downtown Denver.
