The US is the company’s first market outside of its native UK, launched as a closed platform in 2023. It is already one of the US’s biggest listing sites, with an audience of almost half a million monthly users.
It ranks at the top of Google for some of the highest volume search terms in the sector. Every month, millions of people search for running events across the US, with variations of searches like, ‘5k near me’ or ‘Half Marathon San Francisco’. findarace.com ranks at the top of Google for hundreds of these generic search terms.
By capturing the intent at the very top of the funnel, and converting it into an event booking, findarace aims to grow participation numbers in events across the board, from local 5k fun runs to big city marathons.
Interestingly, it sees its competition being not other listing or marketplace sites, but other experiences: live music, football games, and any other way people choose to spend their spare time if not running, cycling or swimming.
In the UK the site operates as a marketplace, in the US as a listing site. In both markets they work alongside registration platforms like Race Roster and RunSignup to capture the interest from people searching online – the ’10k near me-ers’ – and convert them into participants by driving them to the event’s reg provider to book.
As such, it’s a marketing channel, to go alongside the likes of PPC, social media, email and flyers at your local running store. As Co-founder David Wearn explains, “our advantages over those channels are the size and intent of our audience. Events on findarace.com are seen by millions of people actively searching for events.
Wearn continues, “We’re excited about the future and are looking forward to getting more people on the start line of events across the US.”
