New York, November 2, 2024—Nonprofit New York Road Runners (NYRR) welcomed nearly 10,000 athletes from around the world for the annual Abbott Dash to the Finish Line 5K on Saturday in Central Park. The race was headlined by the USATF 5K Championships, with 2023 runner-up Ahmed Muhumed and 2023 champion Annie Rodenfels capturing this year’s titles.
Following in the footsteps of the professional runners, nearly 10,000 athletes, including top local athletes and many TCS New York City Marathon participants, joined in the Abbott Dash to the Finish Line 5K, one of 60 adult and youth races produced by local nonprofit New York Road Runners.
Ending in a sprint finish, Muhumed, who finished fourth and second in the 2022 and 2023 editions of the event respectively, pulled away in the final meters to finish in 13:38. It was his second USATF national title of 2024. The 2023 World Road Running Championships bronze medalist Sam Prakel was less than a second behind in 13:39, followed by Brian Barraza in third in 13:42.

Top youth athletes from across the country also competed in the USATF National Youth 5K Championships.
Tyler Mogavero of Massachusetts and Zariel Macchia of New York finished as the top boy and girl, winning the youth national titles. This was Macchia’s second consecutive win at this event.
