Hopkinton, MA (August 15, 2022) – Outside Interactive®, a Boston-based developer of patented video simulation technology for cardio equipment, today announced it has opened its new headquarters at Two Hayden Rowe in Hopkinton, Mass., steps from the start line of the world-famous Boston Marathon®. The office will serve as a basecamp for sales and marketing initiatives.

“The last few years have been the most challenging in our eleven-year history, with a number of major setbacks,” stated Gary McNamee, Outside Interactive’s founder and CEO. “We had a major fire in 2020, which destroyed the building where we were housed. It was a real gut punch for us. In addition, other unforeseen challenges even required us to suspend operations. Add Covid-19 to the mix and it amounted to a perfect storm,” stated McNamee. “While Covid legitimized our whole idea of a hybrid offering for live events, creating race day course simulations with our race partners was halted due to worldwide race cancellations.”

During Covid, virtual races became a lifeline for many events, offering an alternative to no race at all, but Outside Interactive brings the experience to a whole other level, by creating a race day course simulation, allowing remote participants to see and feel a course on a treadmill, hills and all, at their exact pace, even giving runners the opportunity to break the finisher’s tape.

“When I’m asked how a course simulation differs from a virtual race, I ask,” What makes your race unique? It’s the course of course!”  (More information about virtual vs simulated can be found HERE )

McNamee went on to say, “We have some other very exciting news on the horizon we look forward to sharing.  In addition, we will continue to have the tremendous honor of welcoming thousands of athletes from around the world, who have made the pilgrimage to take part in the most famous footrace on earth each Patriot’s Day, right at our front door.”

About Outside Interactive

Outside Interactive is a Hopkinton, MA developer of a patented course simulator technology for treadmills and other cardio equipment. Outside Interactive partners with marquee endurance events, creating a race day course simulation, capturing all the electricity and excitement of the event from a runner’s point of view, for an interactive course preview of an event, or to train and visualize prior to race day. Entrants can also participate remotely and “officially,” through running, cycling and even rowing, in their health club or living room. This can turn a local live foot race into an international multi-sport event, creating a wider opportunity for the race, with a pay to participate experience, benefitting the race, its sponsors, its vendors, its charities and participants around the world. The company was founded in 2011 by Gary McNamee, a lifelong Boston resident, avid runner, and serial entrepreneur.  For more information, visit www.outsideinteractive.com
