RICHMOND, Virginia, November 8, 2024 – Ragnar Events, the nation’s premiere host of team-based relay running events, and Sports Backers, the leader in creating programs and events designed to keep people active in the Richmond, Virginia area, are pleased to announce a partnership. Ragnar is thrilled to spotlight Sports Backers’ outdoor sports and music festival, Dominion Energy Riverrock. Likewise, Sports Backers is equally excited to champion Ragnar Trail Richmond, a multi-day trail running adventure. As part of this partnership, runners who compete in both events will receive a limited-edition medal commemorating their accomplishment.
Ragnar Trail Richmond has been a fixture in the Richmond running calendar since 2016, bringing tens of thousands of runners together for this team-based relay. Groups of eight embark on an epic journey, covering nearly 120 miles over three scenic loops that wind through beautiful Pocahontas State Park, running continuously from one sunrise to the next. Participants will set up camp in Ragnar Village, a temporary tent city with campfires, music, and festivities to enjoy. Hundreds of teams will descend on the area to take part in the relay. In 2025, the two-day event will take place from April 25–26.
Dominion Energy Riverrock, one of the nation’s largest outdoor sports and music festivals, is celebrating its 17th year along the James River in Richmond, Virginia. The festival takes full advantage of the surrounding James River Park System, which offers more than 550 acres of shoreline and an incredible trail network. As part of the partnership, participants can choose to take part in any of the festival’s trail running events: a 5k, 10k, or half marathon. In addition to trail running, the festival schedule is packed with outdoor adventures, including mountain biking, dog jumping, stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, bouldering, free live music, and more. The three-day event will take place from May 16-18.
“Trail Richmond is one of our most popular events every single year. This community has embraced Ragnar, and we love bringing our relay format here every April,” said Ragnar Marketing Director Mike Bowcut. “We have worked with Sports Backers in the past, and we are thrilled to join forces with them again. They are a fantastic organization doing great things in Richmond.”
“We’re thrilled to work with Ragnar to bring this exciting new element to Dominion Energy Riverrock. Between the James River Park System and Pocahontas, this unique partnership will help highlight multiple outdoor assets in our region,” said Meghan Keogh, Event Director of Dominion Energy Riverrock. “Ragnar’s commitment to adventure and community aligns perfectly with our goal to inspire outdoor exploration. This collaboration promises to deliver an unforgettable experience for participants, combining the spirit of teamwork and the beauty of Richmond’s natural landscapes.”
Finishers of both events will be awarded an exclusive medal in recognition of this commendable milestone, pictured below.
