MADISON, Wis.Run Madtown, Wisconsin’s most inclusive running event, is strengthening its commitment to community access and inclusion with the launch of the Equity in Motion Scholarship, a needs-based program designed to ensure that financial barriers do not prevent members of the community from participating in one of Madison’s most vibrant running celebrations.

Run Madtown has long been known for creating an energetic race weekend that welcomes athletes of all backgrounds and abilities. From longtime runners chasing personal records to first-time participants taking their first steps toward a finish line, the event is built around a simple idea: movement should be accessible, joyful, and shared.

“Run Madtown inspires movement, connection, and joy through events that celebrate every athlete, every pace, and every story,” said Beth Salinger, Race Director. “Our goal is to bring people together to move their bodies, lift their communities, and kick off the summer with color, energy, and flamingo-bright fun.”

The Equity in Motion Scholarship was created to remove financial obstacles that may prevent individuals from taking part in the experience. Through the program, selected participants will receive full coverage of their race registration fees for the distance of their choice, allowing them to participate in race weekend without the burden of cost.

Applications for the scholarship are continually being reviewed with selections being made on an ongoing basis up to race weekend on May 23-24, 2026. All applications are kept confidential, ensuring a respectful and supportive process.

The initiative reflects Run Madtown’s broader mission to ensure that the excitement, camaraderie, and health benefits of running and walking are open to everyone in the community.

“Running events have the power to bring people together and create community, memories and joy,” Salinger said. “With the Equity in Motion Scholarship, we want to make sure more people have the opportunity to be part of that experience.”

Community members who feel that Run Madtown would be meaningful to them but face financial barriers are encouraged to apply.

Run Madtown continues to build a race weekend where every participant, regardless of pace, background, or circumstance, can find their place at the starting line. Register for the 2026 event here.
