ST. LOUIS — One of St. Louis’ most recognizable voices will help celebrate one of the region’s most beloved events this spring. The Steve Ewing Band will perform at the post-race celebration for the Greater St. Louis Marathon and Half Marathon on April 11, bringing a hometown soundtrack to thousands of runners and spectators celebrating race weekend.
The post-race celebration takes place outside CITYPARK Stadium, adjacent to the marathon and half marathon finish line area. GO! St. Louis is also pleased to announce that MATI (Music At The Intersection) Festival and Conference is the stage sponsor for the event. Steve Ewing will also perform at MATI this summer, July 17-19, as part of a St. Louis supergroup called Mississippi Knights.
“We are thrilled to welcome hometown favorites The Steve Ewing Band as our live music at the post-race festival this April, and to collaborate with MATI as our stage sponsor,” said Mona Vespa, President of GO! St. Louis. “It’s yet another way our races are a true celebration of St. Louis, its arts and the incredible local creative talent.”
Steve Ewing, a local icon in the St. Louis music scene, is best known as the powerful frontman of the influential seven-piece band The Urge. Formed in the late 1980s while its members were still in high school, the band fused reggae, hip hop, ska and punk into a sound that helped define the Midwest alternative music scene and built a loyal following across the region.
After releasing four independent albums, The Urge signed with Immortal Records / Epic Records, joining a roster that included artists such as Korn and Incubus. The band released three albums on the label and became a staple on alternative radio stations nationwide with songs including “All Washed Up,” “Brainless,” “It’s Gettin’ Hectic,” and “Too Much Stereo.”
Many St. Louis natives remember The Urge’s high-energy shows at local venues like Mississippi Nights and at regional festivals such as PointFest, performances that helped cement Ewing’s place as one of the city’s enduring musical voices.
Today, Ewing remains active performing with The Urge while also touring with the Steve Ewing Band, the Steve Ewing Duo and Master Blaster.
Beyond the stage, Ewing is also a well-known entrepreneur as the owner of Steve’s Hot Dogs, a St. Louis staple that has been featured on the Food Network, Travel Channel, and Cooking Channel. The restaurant serves what is known as the “Official Hot Dog of St. Louis.”
The Steve Ewing Band performance will take place during the marathon’s post-race celebration on April 11, giving runners and spectators a chance to celebrate their finish with live music from one of the city’s most recognizable performers.
Each April, the Greater St. Louis Marathon & Half Marathon draws thousands of runners from across the region and beyond, showcasing the city’s neighborhoods, landmarks and community spirit.
