St. Paul, Minn.— The Brave Like Gabe Foundation proudly announces its 8th Annual Brave Like Gabe 5K, taking place on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the scenic Como Regional Park in St. Paul, with additional pop-up events nationwide, and a virtual participation option available globally. This event continues to honor the memory of pro runner and rare cancer advocate Gabriele “Gabe” Grunewald, while raising vital funds for rare cancer research.
Since its inception in 2018, the Brave Like Gabe 5K has drawn over 10,000 participants, uniting communities both in-person and online to support groundbreaking treatments for rare cancers.

About Gabriele “Gabe” Grunewald
Gabriele Grunewald was a remarkable Minnesota-born middle-distance runner who faced adenoid cystic carcinoma and thyroid cancer while competing at elite levels. A University of Minnesota All-American and professional Brooks athlete, Gabe continued running through her decade-long cancer journey before passing away on June 11, 2019. Her legacy lives on through the Brave Like Gabe Foundation, inspiring hope and funding research for rare cancers.
